Annifreed, Washington D.C.
Passionate Traveler and Proud Urban Adventures Tour Guide
Originally from Massachusetts, Annifreed is now a Washingtonian and couldn’t be more excited! Before working in the travel industry and guiding, she worked in the affordable housing sector. Travel has always been her favorite hobby and now that she makes a living doing what she loves it is a dream come true. Guiding has provided her with the opportunity to meet people from around the world and show them what she loves about the place she calls home!
We had the pleasure of speaking with Annifreed to ask her 10 Questions for all of you to get to know her better! Read on to learn more about this Allstar Urban Adventurer!
1. What attracted you to Urban Adventures?
I was attracted to Urban Adventures because I wouldn’t have to work in an office setting and I would be able to engage with new people from different backgrounds on a regular basis.
2. What excites you about guiding?
I love being able to make connections with people that in an ordinary situation, I may have otherwise never met.
3. What tours do you give?
Our walking tours are amazing! You can visit DC and I can take you on our New York Times Journeys Washington Insiders Tour, our Historic Tastes of Georgetown tour, our Taste of H Street tour, our DC Craft Cocktail tour, and our seasonal Cherry Blossom tour!
4. What’s one thing you wish you knew you before you started guiding?
How rewarding it could be!
5. Best trait for a good tour guide?
Flexibility. Things won’t always go as planned on a tour for a number of reasons. As a guide, it’s really important that you are able to think on your feet and adapt to necessary changes that might need to happen last minute in order to give the best tour experience.
6. Where would you take people that is not on an Urban Adventures experience?
The Building Museum is known for hosting interactive exhibits from time to time. A few years ago, they hosted an exhibit called The Beach, which consisted of a 4 foot deep ball-pit that you could jump into, filled with nearly 1 million translucent balls.
7. What is an underrated neighborhood or site in Washington DC?
One of the most underrated neighborhoods would be Shaw! It’s a really hip, predominately African-American neighborhood where Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington used to perform. Now it’s home to craft bars, specialty clothing boutiques, and trendy restaurants.
8. Is there a book, song, or movie that is a great representation of your city?
As the nation’s capital and the heartbeat of the country, there’s no navigating around the fact that politics are a huge part of this town. The popular TV show West Wing is a nostalgic political drama from the early 2000s that is a fun watch for those looking for a general (but slightly dramatized) insight into our political system.
9. What song instantly make you happy?
Aba Blabla by J. Perry. He’s a Haitian artist. Whenever it comes on, I can’t help but dance!
10. What meal do you crave if you haven’t been home in a while?
A good old cheeseburger with mustard, mayo, ketchup, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles – dill, not sweet and sour
