Urban Adventurers: Volume 3
A look into the life and times of Urban Adventures’ Guides
Globetrotter and Proud Urban Adventures Tour Guide
Born in the countryside of Hungary, Fanni moved to Budapest in 2008. Most of her friends chose to attend university near their hometown, but Fanni always wanted to live in Budapest. Her mother told her a lot about how lovely the city was and she was right! In addition to guiding, Fanni studies architecture and travels as much as possible!
We had the pleasure of speaking with Fanni to ask her 10 Questions for all of you to get to know her better! Read on to learn more about this Urban Adventurer!
1. What attracted you to Urban Adventures?
Urban Adventures is the first company I worked for as a tour guide and I feel so lucky that it happened that way! I love the way that Urban Adventures thinks about tourism with a focus on being responsible to the communities we live in. I enjoy every tour I give and love hosting small groups, enjoying a friendly atmosphere, and providing local experiences. I also love our team – all of my colleagues are amazing too!
2. What excites you about guiding?
I love my city and I want to share it with others. Every day, I learn something new and it is great to met people from all around the world.
3. What tours do you give?
All kinds of tours, but the wine tours, like Fine Wines and Ruin Bars, are my favorite! We visit the coolest nightlife spots in the city and always have a lot of fun together!
4. What’s one thing you wish you knew you before you started guiding?
I wish I knew that being a tour guide is the Best.Job.Ever. I would have started studying to get my tour guide license much earlier!
5. Best trait for a good tour guide?
Curiosity. Even if you lead the same experiences all the time, it is important to find something new and exciting about them. Also, being curious about the life and interests of your guests is a great way to make real connections!
6. Where would you take people that is not on an Urban Adventures experience?
Definitely, to the café of an arthouse cinema for a nice quiet talk or to one of the rooftop bars for a drink while admiring the city from above!
7. What is an underrated neighborhood or site in Budapest?
Since I moved to Budapest, I have lived in the 11th district on the Buda side, southern from Gellért hill. It is a very lively, green, and colorful part of the city and less known by the travelers. Make sure that you discover that area too! Come and experience the cafés on Bartók Béla boulevard, Kopaszi gát a calm park next to the Danube, and Budai parkszínpad which is an open-air theatre turned into a bar!
8. What is a good day trip for those visiting Budapest?
I recommend visiting any of the many small and charming towns along the Danube river: Szentendre, Visegrád, Esztergom. They are all located in the Danube-bend, the perfect location to escape from the city and enjoy nature.
9. What song instantly make you happy?
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Thrift Shop!
10. What meal do you crave if you haven’t been home in a while?
Stuffed cabbage – pickled cabbage leaves filled with meatballs, cooked with smoked sausage, and served with sour cream!
